Lately
This post is long over due, but I have been meaning to recap life as we know from the past few months. Before school let out, all of the girls were taking gymnastics. Jane spent most of the spring turning cartwheels, especially during dinner time (sigh). She also had a great time with her dance brigade class and really shook her hips at the end of the school year music program.
She is currently obsessed with blowing large bubbles while washing her hands. She lathers them up and then makes a ring with her thumb and pointer finger from which she blows the bubbles. She can make quite a mess, but the bubbles are very impressive. On a daily basis she lets us know that she wants a fish for her birthday and she is also lobbying to get her ears pierced once soccer is over.
Cate had a fabulous year in TK and made some really great friends. In the 2nd half of the year, she was really into writing books. She worked on one book with a classmate but also wrote several on her own. Here are a few samples.
Cate is still our little monkey and often surprises and scares onlookers at the park. She loves heights and is eager to climb just about anything. A few months ago she jumped off the slide in our backyard and bruised her heel. We kept waiting for it to heal but I eventually had to take her to the doctor. The x-ray came back clean but the doctor ordered a walking boot for her to wear for two weeks. It seemed a little excessive at first but proved to be very helpful in slowing her down and allowing her to get better. I think the boot was novel at first but Cate was quickly reminded that she doesn't like to be the center of attention.
Cate loves the water and has become quite the swimmer. She was thrilled to pass the swim test at summer camp and loved going down the twisty slide at the pool. She also loves going on the bouncy structure at our local pool and has become quite good at diving for rings in the deep end. Her love for water also extends to the beach. She is first one to jump in and could play in the waves for hours. This year she is especially concerned with saving the seaweed and is not detoured by the size of the seaweed that needs to be "rescued."
Lizzie loved her first year of preschool and always looked forward to Mondays and Wednesdays. She started taking swimming lessons in March and quickly overcame her fear of water. She is now doing canon balls off the side of the pool and swimming like crazy. Thank you teacher Deb!
We loved our Friday gymnastic classes with her little girlfriends and also enjoyed our play dates at the park after class. It has been fun to see Lizzie become more social and really enjoy her time with friends.

Trever and I have been trying to tackle house projects this summer. They always go a little slower than I hope but we have accomplished quite a bit. Trever has become quite the electrician and has installed new lights on both the inside and outside of our home. He also had do some stucco and painting work outside and continues to prove that he is not intimidated by any project. Although life is busy, we do manage to squeeze in a few dates. Trever's work gave us tickets to the Giants game a few months back and we had amazing seats. I was wishing I had brought my mitt because so many foul balls landed in our section. It was definitely a fun night for both of us.
That is a wrap for now. We have had some wonderful summer adventures and are gearing up for another great school year and birthday season (whew). Love this crew!
