Mimi comes to town
We were lucky to have my mom in town for a few days at the end of May. I encouraged her to come visit before the baby arrives, so that we would have more time to explore. The weather was on the cold side but we were still able to enjoy some great days together. One of our first trips was to the Lincoln Park Zoo. It was a ZOO, as I am pretty sure it was pre-K - 12 day. There were kids and people EVERYWHERE. Despite the crowds and humidity, we still had a good time. The highlight for Jane and Cate was the carousel. I think we could have paid for an hour worth of rides and they would have been perfectly content.
We also enjoyed a day at the Botanic Gardens. The weather was perfect! We started with the butterfly exhibit, which is totally worth it and really amazing. We then explored the gardens and most of the fountains. If there is water, Cate needs to dip her little hands in it.
On one of the cold and rainy days, we went to the Field Museum. The girls had a great time running around and Jane was excited to be reunited with Sue the dinosaur. The highlight for them, mac and cheese at the museum restaurant. It's the little things that stick with you when you are young.
The rest of our days were spent tackling projects, going for walks and taking the kids to the park. I must say that my days were much easier with an extra set of hands around. Thanks for coming to visit mom, we had a great time with you. We look forward to having you join us again as a family of five.
