2 wheelin'

Jane age 2.5, riding her new bike for the very first time.

Almost a year ago we bought Jane her first bike. We debated on getting a balance bike vs. a bike with training wheels and finally decided on this blue bike. Jane was so jazzed about peddling her bike, there wasn't much we could do to convince her to start with a balance bike. So, we let her ride her bike with training wheels for all of last summer. Once she was confident with the peddling, we decided to take off the training wheels and peddles. It was slow going at first, but she was quick to catch on. After about six months of learning to balance, she claimed she was ready to put the peddles back on. I have to admit, I was a little nervous and wasn't she was actually ready to ride a bike. But, she was excited and we didn't wan to hold her back.

I told her to put on some jeans, while Trever put the peddles back on the bike. At first Trever walked with Jane, holding her seat for most of the way down our block. Once he let her loose, she took off. No big falls, no tears, just pure joy at her accomplishment. She is no longer a girl with a balance bike, she is a girl with a bike and she LOVES it. We have been out riding everyday for the past two weeks and she is loving this new freedom. I took a video to capture her new skill but am having trouble uploading it to our blog and to vimeo. So for now, we have the memories and a picture from last year. Congratulations Jane Bear, we are so proud of you!
