Easter weekend
On Friday night we made the drive to Michigan. The first part of our drive went well and Jane was particularly excited about stopping at Panera for dinner. My girls are in LOVE with their mac and cheese and I prefer a salad over a Big Mac, so we stopped at Panera (Trever is not a big fan). He ordered a salmon club, big mistake and Jane and Cate battled over a bowl of mac and cheese. Jane was shoveling large spoonfuls into her mouth so that she would be able to consume a larger portion than Cate. If you can believe it, we ended up ordering another small bowl for Cate because she kept saying, "mo, mo, mo," while banging her clutched fists together, using one of the two signs I have taught her.
After dinner, everyone was satisfied, so we ran around for a few minutes, changed the girls into their pajamas and hit the road. Cate fell asleep shortly after we left but Jane remained awake. Her afternoon power nap in the car was enough to keep her awake until our 11 pm arrival time at my parent's house. We kept encouraging her to fall asleep but didn't have much luck. When we were approximately 15 miles from our destination, Jane ended up throwing up all over herself. It was pretty gross and it smelled like Panera mac and cheese, yuck! We covered her up with a blanket and continued driving to our destination. Jane didn't say much and didn't seem to be upset but she did seem very sleepy. We had to work to keep her awake, as we did not want her to fall asleep in her own throw up.
When we finally made it to the house, we peeled off Jane's clothes on the porch and put her in the tub. Both girls were excited to see their papa, so they didn't end up going to bed until midnight. We crossed our fingers that they would sleep in but this never happens, who are we kidding. There were bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning and were excited to spend time with their Michigan family.
Jane was happy for most of the day but did take a mid-day nap. Cate took a nap as well but it wasn't very long, so she was a little up and down for most of the afternoon. We did go to the Detroit Zoo with my sister, niece and nephew and had a great time. It was the warmest day we have had since fall and it felt so good to be outside. In addition to the regular attractions, they also had a lot of Easter activities for the kids. Jane was mostly excited about riding the carousel but I think she enjoyed seeing the animals as well. The line for the carousel was quite long and although Jane grew impatient, she did a good job waiting in line. I decided to take Cate on the carousel as well and was second guessing that decision until the carousel actually started. While Jane happily sat on her goldfish, Cate tried to jump off her animal and gave a good fight to get off until the ride actually started.
I tried to get these cuties to smile at me but I only captured their love and excitement to be together. They had so much fun together over the weekend.
Although our visit was short, it was so fun to be with family. We dyed eggs, ate delicious food, laughed together, and played outside in the balmy 50 degree weather. Jane was running on fumes by the time Sunday afternoon came around but she still had so much fun. I am pretty sure she was dehydrated and it didn't help that she wasn't getting much sleep. It's hard to sit and eat or sleep when cousins are around.
Our drive home on Sunday was pretty smooth and the girls both slept for the last part of the trip. I thought we were home free once we made it home but Jane threw up again over the front porch railing. She slept okay during the night but was up bright and early on Monday morning. She was pretty cranky, so we laid low, made sure she had enough to eat and drink and after a good nights rest, she is back to her usual spunky self today, go figure.
